Soup as art

Happy New Year!

Many apologies for my holiday hiatus, but am back now and armed with a brand new cookbook. I was a lucky girl and found the New York Times Cookbook by Amanda Hesser underneath the tree on Christmas morning.

I have an abundance of carrots and onions in my apt. right now. This morning I made warm winter slaw with some cabbage and carrots, but didn't make a dent in the carrot stock I have.

Then, thumbing through the cookbook tonight me and my dinner companion stumbled across a recipe that called for a pound of carrots and potatoes. It's called Cream of Carrot soup and was really delicious before I even added the cup of heavy cream and Tabasco.

This is the soup at the simmering stage.

Here's my Christmas present!

More art. Look how this soup looks like abstract art!

Finally, on the same subject of art, this is the top section of a dress I'm putting together. I have two friends, both who have names starting with A and ending in Y, having babies in the springtime. This may end up being for one of them, but it's hard to say because I have tons of ideas.

These polka dots are turning the conservative pattern of this dress into something I think is pretty cool! You may see the sleeves on the sides, this is the first time I've tried it and I have to say, I think they're the cutest little things!
